Upon reaching the hangar bay, they board the Ebon Hawk and fend off attacks from Sith troopers. ![]() Surik and Rand continue moving and meet up with T3-M4, which has been disabled earlier by the HK-50 assassin droid. Meanwhile, when Sion cuts off Kreia's hand with his lightsaber, Surik discovers her newly formed Force bond with Kreia when she unexpectedly feels Kreia's pain through the Force. As Kreia approaches the Sith Lord in an attempt to distract him, Surik and Rand escape through one of the ship's fuel lines. When Surik, Kreia, and Rand-in an attempt to escape from Peragus-board the Harbinger, they discover that the ship has been overrun by the Sith under Darth Sion. In the meantime, another ship arrives at Peragus: the Harbinger, the Republic capital ship transporting Surik to Telos IV before they ended up at Peragus. The HK-50 assassin droid, which claims responsibility for all the deaths and damage at the facility, tries to stop Surik from leaving but she destroys it. Surik eventually learns that the HK-50 assassin droid is after her because of a bounty placed by the Exchange on living Jedi since the collapse of the Jedi Order. The three of them seem to be the only persons alive in the entire facility, which is covered with dead miners and crawling with assault-programmed mining droids that are "mining" organics. She explores her surroundings and finds a smuggler, Atton Rand, whom she frees from a force cage. With 3C-FD's help, T3-M4 manages to dock the ship into the Peragus Mining Facility, where Surik is put into a kolto tank in the medical bay, while Kreia, assumed to be dead, is placed in the morgue.Īfter regaining consciousness, Surik finds Kreia, who wakes up from her trance. In 3951 BBY, four years after the end of the Jedi Civil War, Revan's ship, the Ebon Hawk, emerges badly damaged in the Peragus system, with six passengers on board: two droids that belonged to Revan ( T3-M4 and a disassembled HK-47), two other droids ( 3C-FD and a HK-50 assassin droid), and two unconscious Humans ( Meetra Surik and Kreia). Three types of moderators are used at the MIT reactor: (1) ordinary or "light" water that is also used to cool the reactor core, (2) deuterated or heavy water (D 20), and (3) high-purity graphite, both of which are excellent at slowing neutrons without absorbing them. Sketch of induced nuclear fission, a neutron (n) strikes a uranium nucleus which splits into similar products (F. Since U-235 nuclei do not readily absorb the high energy neutrons that are emitted during fission, it is necessary to slow the neutrons down with a "moderator". ![]() In the MIT reactor, one other group of components is essential to the maintaining and controlling a chain reaction. As fewer and fewer neutrons are absorbed, more and more neutrons are available to cause the splitting of uranium nuclei, until finally enough neutrons are available to sustain a chain reaction. To put the reactor into operation, the control blades are raised very slowly. When the control blades are fully inserted, they absorb so many neutrons from the uranium that there are not enough to allow a chain reaction to continue. Boron has the property of absorbing neutrons without re-emitting any. The rate of fissions in the uranium nuclei in the MIT reactor is controlled chiefly by six control blades of boron-stainless steel which are inserted vertically alongside the fuel elements. When it is in operation, the central active core contains a huge number of neutrons traveling in every direction at very high speeds. The MIT Research Reactor is used primarily for the production of neutrons. Hence, the possibility exists for creating a chain reaction. Each time a U-235 nucleus splits, it releases two or three neutrons. This process is known as fission (see diagram below). When a U-235 nucleus absorbs an extra neutron, it quickly breaks into two parts. The arrangement of particles within uranium-235 is somewhat unstable and the nucleus can disintegrate if it is excited by an outside source. In the nucleus of each atom of uranium-235 (U-235) are 92 protons and 143 neutrons, for a total of 235. ![]() ![]() ![]() PSVR 2 exclusive games like Horizon: Call of the Mountain seriously impress with stellar image quality. At $549 / £529 / AU$879, PSVR 2 is even more expensive than the console itself, which will certainly turn away a sizeable number of consumers. That is if you can stomach the price, of course. Sony has set a phenomenally high bar for any future console-based VR headsets, and comes highly recommended from us if you own a PS5. ![]() The original PSVR had its share of shortcomings back in 2016, most of which have been brilliantly addressed in 2023 with PSVR 2. Priced at $999 / £919 / AU$1,425, there's no getting around the fact that it's an expensive option, but for everything offered, we also consider it the best available, too. Its higher-resolution screen and better refresh rate allowed us to use it for longer periods of time without discomfort, and the Index Controllers are a real step up from the ones that ship with the Vive.Īlthough the Valve Index was difficult to track down throughout most of 2022, we've seen that availability has greatly increased towards the end of the year, much like with some of the company's other hardware, such as the Steam Deck. If you can look past those issues, this is a fantastic VR headset. You'll also need a space where you can be near a powerful PC or gaming laptop, because – this isn't a standalone headset like others in this list. The Valve Index is the next-generation VR headset we’ve been waiting for Valve Index review During our testing, we found setting it up can be tricky, updates can cause connection issues and there are often errors. It’s a significant upgrade to both the HTC Vive, and runs much smoother than the Vive Pro, a powerful VR headset that really struggled to deliver on the promise of high-end, room-scale VR. However, it isn't without its snags. We found it has a crisp display that runs well even with older GPUs, a wider field of view, a higher refresh rate, and Valve’s 'knuckle' controllers, which can track the movement of every finger. The Valve Index is one of the best VR headsets because it represents a next-gen system compared to its predecessors. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great for team collaboration with third-party integrations Great service for Windows and Microsoft Office usersĮncrypted cloud storage with many security and privacy features Generous free cloud storage service with top-notch file versioningĪ feature-rich alternative for backing up filesĪ cloud storage solution that offers lifetime plansĪ cloud backup service that offers unlimited secure storage ServiceĪ secure cloud storage solution with airtight securityĪn excellent choice for team collaboration and Google Workspace users So, we recommend opting for one of the Dropbox alternatives in the table below. ![]() ![]() The players told me they didn’t have enough agency, enough control over their characters’ actions. I ran them through The Perlimian Haul and Onslaught at Arda I, and everyone enjoyed the sessions, but something wasn’t quite right for our group. We hit upon this campaign concept after a brief initial run I set up several months ago, in which the characters were operating under a more traditional military leadership structure. IG–186, the Magna-Droid and former Separatist, was played by Manny. Emerson played TC–21, a protocol droid who believed any Stormtroopers he encountered were responsible for the death of his maker, whom he worshipped as a diety. He wanted all droids to be free of human control. Matt played Knife, a cunning and manipulative R5 unit with a voice synthesizer. They were an unconventional bunch, to say the least. They were given wide lattitude, lots of autonomy, and a broad mandate to sabotage high-value Imperial facilities, assassinate particularly effective enemy military and political leaders, and disrupt important operations where possible. The campaign was built around a simple foundation - the player characters were a Rebel direct action cell created to hit the Empire hard where they least expect it. We enjoy games that cultivate deep immersion in the setting, we enjoy thrilling stories as much or more than the thrill of victory, and we’re easy marks for well-produced game books with evocative art. That’s primarily because we’ve been splitting our time between D&D 5 and Edge of the Empire, both of which have kept us fully engaged. Our tastes have changed a bit in the last couple of years, and we haven’t been exploring as many different games. I cut my teeth on D&D in the early 80s, and the rest of the group has been roleplaying since the 90s. So we came to Age of Rebellion biased in favor of FFG’s approach to Star Wars.Ĭollectively we’ve played a wide variety of games, from Apocalypse World to RuneQuest, over a long stretch of time. Earlier Matt ran an epic Edge of the Empire campaign that was hands-down my favorite campaign ever as a player (see my EotE actual play review). I ran the game for three players: Emerson, Manny, and Matt. We just finished an eleven-session Age of Rebellion campaign. If you’ve ever wanted to take down an AT-AT, form up for a run at a Star Destroyer, or infiltrate an Imperial command post, Age of Rebellion may be the game for you. The visually stunning rulebook reinforces this, evoking the struggle between Empire and Rebellion. The game’s core mechanics give gamemasters and players the lattitude to introduce twists and turns rather than mere success or failure, and the overall feel of play is Star Wars through and through. Because this isn’t a traditional murder-hobos-in-search-of-power-and-treasure affair, this sort of campaign may require more than the usual up-front discussion between GM and players to be sure expectations are aligned. ![]() It is built for creating campaigns in which the players characters are heroes of the Rebellion. Like its predecessor Edge of the Empire, the Age of Rebellion Core Rulebook is a tremendously fun game. When civil unrest manifests, as it already has in various cities as people protest against food inflation, austerity measures, and political corruption, many more major European and American cities will see bouts of violence, disorder and degrees of chaos. As most major cities go, life is comfortable within the home, yet moving around within the city offers less and less pleasure, safety and comfort. In these modern times, no event occurs in isolation, as everything is connected to everything else thus, everything matters. A disruption to a part of the infrastructure, such as the power grid, can cause various domino effects, creating havoc. As Western societies, and their cities, have become increasingly complex, their supply infrastructures have likewise become increasingly complex, interdependent and fragile. In short, the average urbanite is partly (and sometimes wholly) dependent on the plentiful supply of "always-available" goods, such as food and energy. This is especially so if the individual is dependent on supermarket food supplies, gas station fuel and other necessary external amenities. This situation will be exacerbated when disruptive events impact the daily life of the urbanite. Urban life is increasingly out of balance with the needs of the people. This could foster a new sense of contracted and coherent communities to replace the alienation of large urbanized areas and suburban sprawl. To accomplish this may require new forms of social community: emerging micro-communities, transit-orientated communities, garden cities, eco-cities and others. ![]() As in quantum physics, each living organism has the capacity to function both as a sentient individual (a particle) and as a part of the unified collective field (a wave). It may help to remember that progress rarely is achieved through extremes: neither through total individualism (anarchy) nor through an absolute collective (totalitarianism). Many people have been starved of the developmental input that comes from dynamic social intercourse. To a large degree, modern urban living has contributed to isolating individuals from their wider social community and from the influence of their peers. All these features support a communal immersion, the very opposite of what has been occurring within the Western urban landscape. Elgin has stated that for a sustainable future to be viable, there are six requirements: (1) to dismantle consumerism, (2) to return to ecological living, (3) to engage with sustainable futures, (4) to create a conscious democracy, (5) to embrace a reflective paradigm and (6) to work toward reconciliation. Social scientist and futurist Duane Elgin has written extensively on the subject of social consciousness and evolving societies. As the renowned metaphysical poet John Donne once wrote, "No man is an island." This can work as an encouragement for each person to develop to the best of his or her capacity, able to transform dynamic inner power into a productive and useful force. In this way people are being encouraged to become more creative, constructive, and influential within collective life. The social community should once again become an empowering body, a collective that invests diverse individuals to work together for the common good. A part of the needed social transformation will be the rise of increased social agency through peoples' collectives, as we are seeing now with the Occupy movements. Yet this form of social castration has been increasingly contested over recent years by the welcome emergence and rise of some powerful and potent civil movements and nongovernmental organizations. Unfortunately, most political systems dumbfound and dumb-down the masses and castrate the power of the people. The worth of any society is the sum of the citizens who comprise it. ![]() Just as humanity is a social species, individuals are the building blocks of society. ![]() ![]() These cookies obtain information on the user's browser to manage advertising spaces and to offer more relevant quality content for them based on their preferences.
